Looking Forward to Another Successful Year
Dear Parents / Carers
I hope you and the students have had an opportunity for rest and relaxation over the summer holiday. The summer break is a busy time for the school; running the Summer School, completing extensive building work and of course, preparing for the A Level and GCSE results days.
The Summer School, run for the second year, was a great success and based on the feedback I have received from both children and parents, has really supported many students in the transition from primary to secondary school.
The building work that has taken place at school has focused on creating larger spaces for the students to use at break and lunch times, providing not just greater amounts of space, but more seating, better lighting and generally creating a better environment for students to enjoy during their social time.
The A Level and GCSE results days were great days for more students than ever before. The school recorded record-breaking results, which reflected the hard work of the students and the staff, as well as the support given to the students and the school by you, the parents and carers. We will be striving for even better results this year to ensure we cement our place at the top of the Calderdale school league tables and in doing so, ensure that even more of our superb students reach their academic potential.
This will be a particularly busy year for the school because we are expecting a visit from OFSTED. This visit will not disrupt the key purpose of the school – delivering the very best lessons in a calm and supportive environment. It will instead, just be a challenging couple of days, which will reinforce my belief that we have a great school with dedicated staff and superb students. I would like to ask you to tell us what you think about our school by completing the Parent View survey via the link on our website on our OFSTED page or click here. The inspection team uses this survey during the inspection to gain a view on how parents and carers feel about the education we are providing for your child.
You will note from previous communication through the website, newsletter and Twitter feed that we have updated our logo and branding. I want to reiterate that this update will not mean a change of colour to the school uniform or mean that any new uniform will need to be purchased by you again in this school year. We will keep you updated with any future changes via our website and Twitter. Should any changes occur, we do not expect parents to replace items until the current ones are either worn out or your child has outgrown them.
We are in the process of updating our website; we understand from your feedback that this is an area of our communication that we can improve upon, so we are currently working hard to update and improve all the content and bring the website inline with our new logo and branding. We will no longer produce a termly newsletter but will provide an ongoing stream of news via our new website that will be constantly updated with news and timely updates. We use Twitter as our medium for sharing information and you can follow us either via Twitter or by checking the feed on our website.
Our communication strategy remains the same as last year, please get in touch via phone, email or pop in and see us if you have any queries, worries or questions; we want to communicate with you, our partnership ensures that your child / our student understands we are working together to provide them with the best education possible.
I’m looking forward to another very successful year.
