Welcoming you to Rastrick High School
We have taken great care working with Primary Schools to develop an extended transition programme.
When we speak to children in Year 6, they often focus on the size and scale of our school. It’s as if they can’t imagine feeling at home here. We certainly understand these worries, but we’re confident that dealing with them early on leads to a successful and seamless transition.
You will find lots of information on here to help you prepare for your move to Rastrick High School. There are lots of staff here ready to support you in this move and we can assure you (and your Parents/Carers) that we have lots of experience in ensuring that the transition is fun. You will settle quickly into life in Year 7!
We are holding an evening for the Parent/Carers of our Year 7 entrants on the 3rd & 4th July 2019 beginning with an information presentation beginning at 6.30pm. You will also have the opportunity to meet your child’s Form Tutor, members of staff and ask questions. Due to the need to accommodate a large number of people in the Hall, we are inviting parents and carers only; this will not be a meeting for children.
Our transition day is on Friday 5th July 2019.
A fun filled day. Transition Day is where you come to High School for your first full day. You will be put in your new form and meet your new form tutor.
There will be different lessons throughout the day, which you will complete with your form. These vary from English, Maths, Science, ICT, Drama, DT, Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages etc. Every form’s timetable is different to try and ensure that you experience a full ‘flavour’ of what high school has to offer.
Staff and sixth form mentees will be on hand to guide you around the school and take you to the dining hall at lunchtime. When you’ve had your lunch there will be an opportunity for you to explore the school with friends or take part in some of the activities we will provide for you.
This years transition period is from the 15th to the 18th of July.
This year, to ensure an even better Transition experience, we are inviting all students to experience a full week of RHS, sampling lessons and getting to know friends and teachers alike.
Students will follow our normal school timings, apart from Friday:
Monday to Friday 8.55am-3.30pm
Parents/carers will need to arrange drop off/collection of their child for this week. Students are able to catch our school buses during this Period – to view timetable click here
Normal primary school uniform should be worn all week.
Lunch will be provided free of charge. If your child prefers to bring a packed lunch, they may do so and join their classmates in the Hall.
